AT A GLANCE - See the following 2012-13 statistics

  • The average cost of child care for an infant in a 5-star center is $1,200 per month.
  • There are approximately 589 licensed child care facilities in Wake County.
  • There are more than 19,000 children in licensed child care in Wake County.
  • Over 1,400 children and their families received services to support kindergarten readiness, parenting skills, familiy literacy, and child social and emotional development.
  • 1,210 children participated in the NC Pre-Kindergarten program.
  • 5,800 home visits provided parent education, child assessments and referral information to participants
  • Nearly 50% of all child care centers in the county received consultation or training from WCSS funded programs.
