During the 2008-2009 fiscal year, Wake County SmartStart funded intervention programs through which 81% of the children served had at least one factor which put them at risk for school failure. By intervening early, issues can be addressed before a child starts school, increasing the likelihood that the child will arrive at school ready to learn.
